Madison New Jersey Hit and Run SuspectAuthorities are looking for leads in a fatal hit-and-run car accident in Madison, NJ.

According to prosecutors, a 53-year-old Madison NJ man was fatally struck by a vehicle in a possible hit-and-run accident near the intersection of Main Street and Prospect Avenue in Madison, New Jersey. Afterwards, the suspect allegedly fled the scene and traveled east on Main Street in the direction of Chatham, New Jersey.

Although the car accident happened on June 20, the victim’s injuries did not prove fatal until July.

After the car accident, the victim was transported to the Morristown Medical Center. He remained at the hospital until his tragic death on July 1.

The Madison Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are actively investigating the circumstances of the victim’s death. Investigators believe that the victim may have sustained his critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident.

Police recently revealed that they are looking for a 2013-2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. It is possible that the vehicle sustained minimal damage to its front area.

If the suspect is eventually identified and apprehended, they would likely face significant criminal charges for vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-5, death by vehicular homicide is usually classified as a second degree felony – unless the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. A conviction on vehicular homicide charges could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.

Anyone who has information about the hit-and-run accident or the suspect should call investigators at 973-593-3000 or 973-285-6200.
