Parsippany New Jersey Sexual Assault LawyersPolice recently arrested a Lake Hiawatha man who allegedly had sex with an underage girl on a number of occasions in Parsippany, New Jersey.

According to law enforcement, the 23-year-old suspect had sex with the 14-year-old girl several times while both of them were intoxicated. The alleged sex offenses are believed to have occurred between December 17 and March 22.

The victim’s family members learned of the incidents after reportedly finding explicit messages on the girl’s cell phone. When confronted about the texts, the girl reportedly told her family that she got drunk and had sex with the suspect. The family then notified Parsippany police, which began an investigation into the suspect.

Parsippany investigators spoke with the suspect, who allegedly told them that he was too drunk while in the presence of the victim to remember ever having sex with her.

Parsippany police eventually placed the suspect under arrest. He has been charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

If the suspect is convicted on the sexual assault charges, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, sexual assault is a crime of the second degree. A conviction on second degree sexual assault charges could result in a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison. Additionally, a convicted sex offender would be subject to Megan’s Law sex offender registration requirements upon release from prison.

After the suspect was arrested and processed, he was transported to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $125,000 bail. Although the suspect asked for bail reduction during a bail review hearing in Morris County Superior Court, the judge maintained the high bail amount.
