Police in Boonton Township NJ arrested a man accused of committing an assault on New Year’s Day.
Boonton police received a report of a fight at a residence. When police officers arrived at the scene, they saw a man who had been injured. The victim told the officers that someone at the residence had assaulted him with a trophy.
Police investigated and determined that the fight was the result of an argument. At one point during the altercation, the suspect allegedly threw a trophy at the victim. The suspect then allegedly ran toward the victim and started to violently punch him in the face.
According to police, the victim suffered a severe laceration. Beyond that, the fight reportedly resulted in significant property damage throughout the residence.
The 27-year-old suspect, who lives in Boonton, was placed under arrest. He has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, New Jersey. The suspect remained at the jail after failing to post the necessary bail amount.
