Jefferson NJ police are investigating a violent stabbing outside a local strip club.
The suspect, who is from Wantage New Jersey, has been accused of committing the violent act outside the Daily Planet bar. The go-go bar is located on Roosevelt Avenue in Jefferson, NJ.
Local law enforcement got a call about a possible stabbing outside the strip club. When police officers arrived at the club, however, the participants in the altercation had already left the scene.
Witnesses spoke with police at the scene and provided a description of the victim’s car. Not long after that, Sparta New Jersey police officers found the vehicle and discovered the victim inside. According to authorities, the victim was bleeding profusely from the abdomen.
The victim was taken by helicopter to Morristown Medical Center, where he received medical treatment for his stab wounds. The hospital later listed the victim in stable condition.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted with the investigation of the alleged stabbing. Detectives soon identified a 45-year-old Wantage man as the main suspect in the case. At this time, it not yet clear how police managed to identify him as the person who stabbed the victim. According to a police captain, officials are still attempting to determine precisely what prompted the altercation.
A week after the incident, authorities issued an arrest warrant for the suspect. A few days later, New Jersey State Police tracked down the suspect and placed him under arrest.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted of aggravated assault, he could face severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), anyone who causes bodily injury to another person while using a deadly weapon can be charged with a third degree criminal offense. A conviction for third degree aggravated assault could net the suspect a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, New Jersey. He is being held at the jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
