A man from Vernon Township NJ was recently charged with death by auto in connection with a fatal DWI crash.
According to authorities, the 24-year-old suspect was intoxicated while driving a car that was involved in a tragic accident. The fatal car crash occurred on Route 565 near Babtown Road in Vernon Township, NJ.
Vernon NJ police officers got a report of a two-vehicle collision on the highway. When the officers showed up at the scene, they saw a man trapped inside a red Ford. The victim, a 48-year-old male from Greenwood Lake, New York, was later pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Vernon NJ police officers also noticed the suspect standing next to the victim’s vehicle. Police officers conducted a preliminary investigation and quickly determined that the suspect may have been intoxicated at the time of the auto accident.
Since the other driver died as a result of the car crash, the suspect has been charged with death by auto. The suspect has also been cited for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to keep right.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility in Newton, NJ. He was being held at the jail on a $50,000 bail amount.
