Dover New Jersey police recently arrested a man accused of causing a drunk driving accident and possessing a loaded gun.
The car accident happened shortly before 11:00 p.m. According to authorities, the 25-year-old suspect was behind the wheel of a car and driving in the area of East Fairview Avenue and the corner of North Sussex Street in Dover, NJ.
Dover police received a report of the accident and dispatched officers to the scene. When police officers arrived at the accident scene, they came across the driver. The officers noticed that the suspect appeared to be intoxicated.
Police administered field sobriety tests, as well as a chemical breath test. According to law enforcement, the suspect registered a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .10 percent, which is above the NJ legal limit of .08 percent.
While the suspect was performing the field sobriety tests, he allegedly favored his left leg. Police officers subsequently conducted a search of the suspect and allegedly discovered a loaded .38-caliber handgun on his ankle.
The suspect, who resides on Bowlby Street in Dover NJ, was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful possession of a weapon. The suspect was also cited for multiple traffic offenses.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was remanded to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, New Jersey. He later posted a $5,000 bail amount and secured his release from police custody.
