The Mount Olive Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. This court hears minor criminal offenses (known as disorderly persons offenses and petty disorderly persons offenses). Disorderly persons offenses include up to six (6) months in the county jail and up to a $1,000.00 fine if convicted. Petty disorderly persons offenses include up to thirty (30) days in the county jail and up to a $500.00 fine if convicted. Both charges will end up in a permanent criminal charge on your record if you are convicted or plead guilty to these offenses. Some examples of disorderly persons criminal charges are possession of marijuana under 50 grams, simple assault, and harassment.

The Mount Olive Municipal Court also hears traffic offenses such as driving while intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving, and speeding. Drunk driving, known as driving while intoxicated (DWI) in New Jersey, is a traffic violation and is not considered a criminal offense.
