A Denville NJ man wanted for a shooting in Newton NJ was caught by U.S. Customs officials.
Earlier this year, in a town near the Mexican-American border, Karl Friday was arrested after being found on a Greyhound bus. At a Sierra Blanca TX checkpoint, U.S. Customs officials took Mr. Friday into custody. In recent years, the checkpoint has been the site of several major drug arrests, including arrests of Willie Nelson, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Fiona Apple, and Arnie Hammer.
Two (2) weeks before he was caught at the checkpoint, Mr. Friday allegedly shot a man in Newton NJ. Authorities believe that on February 8, Mr. Friday broke into the victim’s home and shot him.
Police believe that Mr. Friday was driven from the scene of the alleged crime by Leanne Dawes, a 27-year-old Denville NJ woman. Authorities charged Ms. Dawes with third degree hindering apprehension for her alleged involvement.
Last week, Mr. Friday was indicted on an array of charges, including first degree attempted murder, aggravated assault with an assault rifle, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of an assault weapon, and second degree aggravated assault.
While awaiting arraignment, Mr. Friday was held at the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $750,000.00 bail. During this time, Mr. Friday allegedly punched a sheriff’s officer in the face. This incident led Mr. Friday also being charged with third degree aggravated assault.
