A Kinnelon High School student accused of murdering his father allegedly dialed 911 to report the incident immediately after it happened.
According to officials, the 18-year-old suspect shot and killed his father at their home in Kinnelon, NJ. The suspect reportedly used a British Enfield .303 rifle and shot his father several times.
The suspect then allegedly dialed 911 and called a Hardyston NJ police dispatcher. The suspect reportedly told the dispatcher that he had done “something bad” and then stated, “I murdered my father.”
The suspect also directed police to his whereabouts. Police later found the suspect sitting in his car, which was parked near the Skylands Ice World on Route 23 in Hardyston, NJ. Police officers arrested the suspect without incident.
Investigators then went to the Kinnelon house and discovered the victim’s body. Police also allegedly discovered the Enfield rifle which was used to commit the killing, as well as shell casings on the floor.
The suspect, a student at Kinnelon High School, was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Jail in Morristown New Jersey. He is being held at the facility on a $750,000 bail amount.
The victim reportedly owned a construction company in Pequannock, NJ. A cousin of the suspect showed up to a recent bail review hearing for the suspect. The cousin told reporters that the family is still struggling to understand what happened.
