A Bound Brook NJ man was sentenced to serve five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

41-year-old Oscar Cespedes-Barrantes appeared in Somerset County Superior Court for sentencing. He told the court that he suffered similar sexual abuse when he was a child.

Mr. Cespedes-Barrantes apologized for his actions and acknowledged that he had made “a very serious error.” He also explained that he had suffered for nearly 30 years with alcohol-related problems.

Earlier this year, Mr. Cespedes-Barrantes pleaded guilty to the very serious charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities learned of Mr. Cespedes-Barrantes’ illegal conduct when the girl and her mother reported the sexual assault to Bound Brook NJ police. The victim told authorities that Mr. Cespedes-Barrantes had touched her inappropriately on two occasions.

After Mr. Cespedes-Barrantes serves his sentence, he is scheduled to be deported.
