A man residing in Dover NJ man was sentenced to 17 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.
The 48-year-old suspect was initially arrested for the crime in 2011. Police discovered images of child pornography, including the sexual assault, when they searched an Andover NJ motel room that the suspect had rented.
Police were called to the motel after the motel got a bomb threat.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered more than 100 DVDs and CDs in the suspect’s room. When investigators conducted a forensic investigation of the materials, they uncovered evidence of the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in 2005. The investigation occurred while the suspect was being housed at the Sussex County Correctional Facility.
Authorities believe that the suspect shared sexually explicit images of the sexual assault online.
As a result of the images, the suspect was charged with first degree aggravated sexual assault and first degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The defendant later accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to the charges.
As a result of the plea agreement, the defendant will be required to serve 17 years in New Jersey State Prison. The plea deal also calls for him to serve a minimum of 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. This means that he will be behind bars until at least 2029.
