Newton New Jersey Sexual Assault LawyersA former cop with the Newton Police Department faces criminal charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a teen boy at a local Burger King restaurant.

The suspect is a 39-year-old resident of Hampton, New Jersey. According to authorities, he committed the sexual offense at a Burger King located in Newton, NJ.

The victim is a 16-year-old boy. He reported the sexual assault to Sussex County law enforcement, which subsequently launched an investigation into the suspect.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, child endangerment, and criminal restraint.

If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of sexual assault, he would be subject to severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, sexual assault is a second degree criminal offense and carries a potential penalty of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.

It has been reported that the suspect previously resigned from his job as a Newton police officer after he was caught exposing himself to male motorists during traffic stops. He received a sentence of two years of probation in that case, which allowed him to avoid jail time.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, NJ. The reasons for the suspect being held at a Morris County Jail, not a Sussex County jail, are unclear.
