Mount Olive NJ Sexual Assault AttorneysA woman who used to work as a physical education teacher at a Mount Olive middle school has been accused of sexually assaulting a young girl in Netcong, NJ.

The suspect reportedly committed the sexual offenses more than two decades ago. The victim did not come forward until later when she was an adult.

The sex crimes reportedly occurred in Netcong NJ at least twice between June 1993 and April 1994. When the suspect allegedly committed the sexual assaults, she was 35 years old and the victim was just 14 years old.

The victim is now 37 years old. She told authorities that the suspect digitally penetrated her when she was a minor. At the time, the suspect was a PE teacher at Mount Olive Middle School in Mount Olive, New Jersey. However, Morris County prosecutors said that they do not believe the alleged sex crimes had any connection to the suspect’s employment at the middle school.

The suspect eventually retired from her job at the Mount Olive NJ school and opened Fanucci’s Café, an Italian restaurant in Netcong that she owns and operates with her husband.

The suspect was formally charged with sexual assault in May 2015. She was recently indicted by a Morris County grand jury on the very serious sex crime charges.

If the suspect goes to trial and is convicted of sexually assaulting a minor, she would be subject to significant criminal penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(b) and N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(c) classify the sexual assault of a minor as a second degree crime. A conviction on second degree sexual assault charges could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.

After being arrested and charged in the criminal case, the suspect was ordered held at the Morris County Jail in Morristown, New Jersey. She later secured her release from jail by posting $75,000 bail. She will likely remain free on bail until the charges against her are resolved.
