A Florham Park man was sentenced to probation after he pleaded guilty to a sex crime for having sexual relations with an underage female.
The suspect was 19 years old when he engaged in sexual relations with two minors: a 13-year-old female and a 14-year-old female. The suspect allegedly had sex with both juveniles after meeting them at a “rave” party held in East Hanover, NJ.
The suspect continued a relationship with the 14-year-old girl and reportedly had sex with her three times in his car.
Police opened an investigation into the suspect after the victim’s mother reported his alleged sexual offenses. The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with several counts of sexual assault.
The suspect ultimately accepted a plea deal with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office: in exchange for the suspect pleading guilty to just one count of criminal sexual contact, Morris County prosecutors agreed to recommend that he be sentenced to probation.
During a recent sentencing hearing in Morris County Superior Court, located in Morristown, the suspect’s criminal defense lawyer stated that his client thought the victim was 16 years old.
The superior court judge agreed to the conditions of the suspect’s plea agreement and sentenced him to one year of probation. The judge also ordered the suspect to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
