Morristown NJ police recently arrested a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage girl.
The victim is said to be a 14-year-old girl who lived in Morristown, New Jersey. According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect told authorities that he had some kind of contact with the juvenile victim.
The 20-year-old suspect is from Morristown, New Jersey. He has been charged with several sex offenses, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.
If the suspect is eventually convicted on the aggravated sexual assault charges, he would face significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(a), an adult who commits an act of sexual penetration with an underage victim can be charged with a first degree crime. A conviction for first degree aggravated sexual assault could lead to a term of incarceration of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Beyond a prison sentence, the suspect could potentially be deported from the United States because he is reportedly an undocumented immigrant. Morristown New Jersey police have already alerted US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about the suspect’s status. As soon as the criminal charges are resolved, the suspect may be subject to deportation from the country.
Meanwhile, the suspect was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $150K bail amount. In the event that the suspect is able to post bail, he will be prohibited from contacting any minors until the sex crime charges against him have been resolved.
