A Fairview New Jersey man has been charged with sexual assault for allegedly raping a woman in Union City, NJ.
According to Fairview law enforcement, the 23-year-old suspect broke into the victim’s house in Union City and raped her on December 6, 2015. The suspect allegedly committed the sex crime around 2:30 a.m.
Fairview police believe that the suspect was able to gain entry into the victim’s home by crawling through a window. Once he was inside the residence, the suspect allegedly raped the victim, in addition to forcing her to perform sex acts on him.
A week after the violent sexual assault, the suspect allegedly called the victim’s phone number and left a vile message. The message allegedly threatened to kill the victim, with the suspect reportedly saying, “You are going to pay with your life.”
Fairview police kept looking for the suspect and eventually arrested him. He was subsequently charged with several crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, and terroristic threats.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted of sexual assault, he would be subject to severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(a), aggravated sexual assault is a first degree crime and can result in a sentence of 10-20 years in NJ State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $400K bail.
