Police in Florham Park NJ arrested a local man accused of committing a sexual assault of an underage female.
According to Morris County authorities, the suspect committed more than one act of sexual assault against a victim who was between 16 and 18 years of age. The sexual offenses reportedly occurred at the suspect’s residence in Florham Park, NJ.
The Florham Park Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit opened an investigation into the suspect after law enforcement got a report that he had engaged in illegal sexual activity with the victim.
Investigators later determined that there was enough evidence of a sex crime to place the suspect under arrest.
The suspect, a 52-year-old Florham Park man, was charged with two counts of sexual assault.
If the suspect is convicted of sexual assault, he would be subject to severe criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, an adult who commits an act of sexual penetration with a minor who is at least 16 but less than 18 years old can be charged with a second degree crime. A conviction on second degree sexual assault charges could result in a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was moved to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, New Jersey. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $100,000 bail. Additionally, the suspect has been ordered to have no contact with any juvenile who is under the age of 18.
