New Jersey police recently arrested a Virginia man accused of engaging in sexually explicit conversations online with an underage girl from Montville, NJ.
The victim was between the ages of 12 and 14 when the sexual conversations allegedly took place. The sex offenses reportedly began in October 2013.
During some of the later conversations, the suspect allegedly sent nude images to the young victim.
Investigators became aware of the alleged sex crimes in July. The victim spoke with an acquaintance, who then contacted local law enforcement. The victim said that the suspect threatened to post sexually explicit videos of her on Instagram.
Morris County NJ investigators interviewed the victim, who said that she engaged in a number of online chats with the suspect over the course of two years. Eventually, the victim and the suspect reportedly sent each other naked photos.
During the investigation, the victim and the suspect had a conversation on the telephone. Detectives listened in on the call and allegedly overheard the suspect admit to the sex crimes.
Morris County Prosecutor’s Office detectives then went to Virginia to speak with the suspect. During an interview with investigators, the suspect allegedly confessed to engaging in illegal sexual conversations with the victim.
The suspect was placed under arrest in Waynesboro, Virginia. A short time later, the suspect was extradited to New Jersey.
The suspect has been charged with multiple sex crimes, including sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was remanded to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, New Jersey. He was being held at the correctional facility on a $125,000 bail among. If and when the suspect secures his release on bail, he will be prohibited from any contact with the victim.
