Madison NJ police recently arrested a Florham Park NJ man accused of stealing cash from a Stop and Shop.
The suspect was employed at a Stop and Shop in Madison, New Jersey. According to authorities, he stole money from a cash register on November 10, 2016.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man who lives in Florham Park, was previously convicted of a sex offense in East Hanover, New Jersey. According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl who worked on an ambulance squad with him.
The suspect ultimately reached a plea deal with Morris County prosecutors: he agreed to plead guilty to criminal sexual contact; in exchange, prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of probation, not jail time.
In addition to receiving probation, the suspect was ordered to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
Now the suspect is subject to additional penalties for his alleged theft crime. Moreover, a conviction for the theft offense could potentially result in the suspect going to prison for the earlier sex offense because it would likely constitute a violation of his probation.
After being placed under arrest and charged for his latest alleged crime, the suspect was released on his own recognizance. He is going to have to address the theft charges at a later date.
