The Mountain Lakes Police Department is actively investigating a string of car burglaries and vehicle thefts.

Many of the car break-ins and thefts have involved luxury cars that were parked in residential driveways. The suspects allegedly targeted the expensive motor vehicles during the early morning hours when the owners may have been asleep.

Some of the stolen cars were recovered by law enforcement, including a 2011 Lexus and a 2014 BMW 6 Series that were located in Newark, NJ.

Mountain Lakes detectives are currently investigating the automobile thefts and trying to identify suspects. One possible suspect is in police custody; however, authorities have yet to charge him in connection with the theft crimes.

Meanwhile, the Mountain Lakes Police Department is warning local residents to lock their automobiles and avoid leaving the keys inside the vehicles.
