Burglary in Rockaway Borough New JerseyRockaway Borough police are investigating several recent home burglaries.

According to officials, someone attempted to burglarize a detached garage on Overlook Drive in the West side of Rockaway Borough, New Jersey. Police believe that the suspect tried, but failed, to get inside the garage through a side window.

Three other burglaries have been reported in Rockaway in the last month.

One of the earlier burglaries occurred at a home on Andrea Drive, which is near Morris Hills High School. The offenders were able to gain access to the home by breaking a locked sliding patio door. Once inside the residence, the thieves stole jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Another burglary occurred at a residence on Walnut Place in Rockaway. The thieves reportedly got away with jewelry, as well as a handgun.

Yet another burglary occurred at a home on Drake Avenue, near Firemen’s Field. The burglars got into the residence through an unlocked first floor window. Once inside, they allegedly stole jewelry.

The Rockaway Borough Police Department is currently investigating the thefts. However, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made at this time.

Rockaway police recently advised borough residents to take certain precautions to avoid being targeted by burglars. For example, residents should lock all windows, keep jewelry and cash hidden, report suspicious behavior in the area, and notify the police department if going on an extended vacation.
