The Morris County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad recently sent officers to an apartment complex in Wharton NJ to investigate a possible bomb threat. The bomb scare was prompted by the discovery of black powder and other bomb-making materials near the body of a suicide victim.
The man who died reportedly worked at Picatinny Arsenal, an American military research and manufacturing facility in Morris County, NJ. The suspect is believed to have committed suicide in a residence at the Brentwood Gardens apartment building in Wharton, New Jersey.
Wharton cops went to the home to conduct a welfare check after getting a call from concerned family members of the victim. When the Wharton NJ police officers got to the apartment, they found the victim’s body near black powder and a pipe. This led authorities to immediately evacuate the apartment complex.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad then arrived at the scene and investigated for more than 13 hours before determining that there were no bomb components in the residence.
Wharton detectives also conducted an investigation and reportedly ruled out homicide as a cause of the victim’s death.
