Police recently arrested a man accused of driving a car and slamming into a bicyclist in Riverdale, New Jersey.
The accident occurred during the early morning hours. According to law enforcement, the 25-year-old suspect was behind the wheel of an Acura when he tried to make a left turn at the intersection of Kenner Court and Riverdale Road in Riverdale, NJ. While making the turn, the suspect allegedly hit the 41-year-old victim, who was riding his bicycle on the roadway.
The victim, who is from Wanaque NJ, was knocked off his bike and went flying over the hood of the suspect’s car. As a result of the contact, the victim suffered injuries to his arms and legs.
After the accident, the victim was transported to Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, NJ. The victim received medical treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Riverdale police officers were called to the scene of the accident to investigate. Police spoke with witnesses, who said that the suspect may have been “traveling at a high rate of speed.” Witnesses also told police that they were not sure if the suspect used his turn signal prior to turning.
The suspect, who is from Paterson NJ, has been charged with a number of traffic violations, including careless driving, improper turn, and failure to inspect. The suspect has not yet been charged with speeding.
