A teenage driver was cited for careless driving after he allegedly crashed his Jeep into a telephone pole in Riverdale, New Jersey.
According to authorities, the suspect was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee on Windbeam Road in Riverdale NJ when he lost control of the vehicle. At some point while attempting to drive the Jeep down an incline, the suspect allegedly struck a curb, then a large concrete wall. The Jeep eventually slammed into a telephone pole before rolling over.
As a result of the crash, the telephone pole snapped in half.
The accident happened shortly after 4:00 p.m. Not long after that, Riverdale NJ police received a call about the crash and sent officers to the area. When police arrived at the scene, they saw the damaged Jeep, as well as a telephone pole that had been snapped in half.
Thankfully, the driver of the Jeep was unharmed in the accident. Additionally, a passenger in the vehicle was not hurt.
The car accident caused a significant power outage that affected the surrounding area in Riverdale. However, work crews quickly mobilized to replace the damaged telephone pole restore power to the area.
After the crash, Riverdale New Jersey police investigated and determined that the driver was probably at fault for the accident. Riverdale police subsequently issued the driver a summons for careless driving.
If the driver is eventually convicted on the careless driving charges, he could receive two points on his NJ driver’s license. If convicted, the driver might also be subject to a monetary fine.
