Police officers recently apprehended a Wayne New Jersey man accused of eluded law enforcement in Pequannock.
The police pursuit started at an Exxon gas station on Route 23 in Wayne, NJ. The suspect reportedly walked into the gas station and shoplifted cigarettes. He then allegedly drove off in a Ford F-150.
Pequannock NJ officers saw the suspect’s truck headed north on Route 23 and tried to stop the vehicle. However, the suspect reportedly drove through a red light and evaded police by traveling on local roads.
The suspect eventually got back onto Route 23. The chase finally ended when the suspect reportedly crashed his truck in Pequannock. The suspect then reportedly fled the site of the accident on foot and went to a ravine.
Officers with the Pequannock Police Department, the Riverdale Police Department, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office tracked down the suspect, who was allegedly trying to hide in the water.
The suspect, a 35-year-old Wayne man, was arrested and charged with eluding police, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice. He was also issued traffic citations for reckless driving, driving while suspended, improper left turn, and failure to observe single lane.
After being arrested, the suspect was transported to Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains so that he could receive medical attention for injuries sustained during the pursuit. He was later moved to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, NJ.
