A 71-year-old woman asked for directions and was abducted by an East Rutherford couple who held her at gunpoint, forced her to empty her bank account, and left her in the trunk of her own car, according to Parsippany police. The East Rutherford couple was apprehended and have been charged with numerous offenses including robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, and illegal weapons possession. According to the NJ.com article, “Morris County Superior Court Judge Mary Gibbons Whipple set Nadeau’s bail at $300,000 and Defreitas’ at $500,000, and neither was given a 10-percent cash option, according to the release. Both were taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility.”

According to reports, the victim stopped to ask for directions and one of the defendants threatened her an gun point and forced her into their vehicle. Then, the other defendant drove the victim’s vehicle and followed her partner to the bank where they took money out of the victim’s bank account after getting her pin number. Finally, the couple stuffed the victim in her trunk and stole her purse and credit cards and proceeded to use them at various locations in New York and New Jersey before being apprehended.
