Greenleaf Compassion Center opened earlier this month on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey. This is the first medical marijuana dispensary opened in New Jersey and is available by appointment only so far. One of their customers is a 40-year-old man who has been HIV positive for twenty (20) years. The medical marijuana will ease the gut-wrenching nausea he suffers from based on his treatments. According to the news article entitled, “[m]edical marijuana activist makes his first legal purchase in Montclair”, the patient spent about $400 to sample the three strains of marijuana now available at the dispensary.

A quarter ounce of marijuana is selling for $110 plus sales tax. The state also charges $200 for registration that is good for two years, although people with Medicaid or who are enrolled in other low-income programs pay only $20. There are also discounts available based on ability to pay.
