A 54-year-old woman who works for VIP Spa on Route 10 East was arrested and charged with prostitution last week after a successful undercover police operation. According to the NJ.com article, the defendant had apparently become aware of the undercover operation and fled the scene with a large amount of cash. According to police, the route 10 spa had been under investigation for prostitution for five (5) months. Police also claim that this one just one arrest in a larger prostitution ring and more arrests are expected to follow. The defendant was charged with committing sexual activitity for exchange of cash and attempting to perform sexual activity with an undercover officer.

Generally, prostitution charges in New Jersey are governed by NJSA 2C:34-1 which is a disorderly persons offense. However, for a second or subsequent offense it becomes a fourth degree crime.
